Our Mission

A More Perfect Union is a not-for-profit volunteer organization that supports women at risk to have constructive relationships. Through the sharing of common experiences, and participation in targeted exercises, the program engenders trust, promotes personal responsibility and self-reliance and demonstrates the power of strong female bonds.

Association of Legal Administrators Benefits A More Perfect Union in New York City

On March 3, 2009 A More Perfect Union was the beneficiary of the Charity Committee of the New York Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators (ALA) Networking and Silent Auction event. With more than 180 guests in attendance, the event supported the work of The Circle of Women program with women in New York metropolitan area. Proceeds will be used to support existing programs, and to expand The Circle of Women reach to more women.

In her acknowledgment of the ALA's support, Jamie Allen Black, President shared that one in four families are touched by substance abuse and/or domestic violence. She said "In today's world of economic uncertainty, any one of us could be one or two paychecks away from homelessness." The women we serve through The Circle of Women program are "our sisters, our administrative assistants, our mothers, our aunts, the woman who sells us our lotto tickets, our daughters, our receptionists, our lawyers", said Ms. Black.

Audience members were moved by the presentations of Circle of Women program graduates Geraldine Flood and Robin Summers from The Veritas Therapeutic Community who spoke about their circumstances and the affect of the program on their lives. Graduates of The Circle of Women program are taking responsibility for their own lives and are working toward their dreams. They are reclaiming their families, rebuilding their relationships and working to make all of our communities more successful. When we feed each other with strength and commitment and support we build communities that bridge socio-economic, racial and gender barriers.

A More Perfect Union is grateful to Susan Scattergood and the Charity Committee of the New York Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators for their support.
